4 steps

Follow this base recipe in order. The materials list specifies one hook size; adjust proportions together when tying another size.

  1. Prepare the body

Wrap weight on the shank and secure with thread. Remove the tubing core and slide the sleeve over the shank.

  2. Anchor the rear

Secure the tubing at the bend. Part rabbit fur and bind the strip there, leaving a tail about one shank long.

  3. Close the front

Finish the rear thread. Start black thread behind the eye, secure the tubing front, and stretch the strip forward over the body; tie down and trim.

  4. Add the throat

Bind a small bunch of red hackle fibers underneath. Whip finish and cement both tie-downs.

Beyond the bench

On the water.

Use short strips and pauses beside structure. For pike, scale up the hook and rabbit strip; the size 6 recipe is a trout-sized starting point.
