Foam, rubber legs, and two visible wings create a floating hopper or stonefly attractor.

From hook to fly
At the vise.
Follow this base recipe in order. The materials list specifies one hook size; adjust proportions together when tying another size.

Tail and foam
Start thread, tie a short flash tail, and secure a tapered foam strip at the bend, extending rearward.

Rear station
Dub the rear body. Fold foam forward and bind it at the rear third. Add a white wing and paired side legs there.

Front station
Dub forward under the foam. Bind the foam near the front third, then add the second wing and side legs.

Finish
Whip finish under the foam. Trim the front lip and legs, then cement the tie-downs.
Beyond the bench
On the water.
Use as a searching dry or support for a light dropper. A dropper that sinks the dry needs a larger dry or less weight.
