From hook to fly

4 steps

Follow this base recipe in order. The materials list specifies one hook size; adjust proportions together when tying another size.

Thread base
Start thread over the front quarter of the shank, leaving the rest bare.
Belly
Tie a sparse white bundle by its midpoint beneath the shank. Fold the front half rearward and secure.
Back and eyes
Repeat with brown fibers above the shank. Whip finish, then attach an eye to each side.
Resin and taper
Apply thin resin layers around the head and eyes, curing each. Leave the tail flexible and trim it into a narrow baitfish taper.

Beyond the bench

Strip around small baitfish, varying speed and pauses. A slim dressing helps match slender forage.
