Soft saddle feathers create a light streamer that hovers and pulses on the pause.

From hook to fly

4 steps

Follow this base recipe in order. The materials list specifies one hook size; adjust proportions together when tying another size.

Tail
Align four saddle feathers into a cupped tail about two-and-a-half shanks long. Tie them at the bend.
Flash
Tie a few gold strands along each side, ending close to the tail tips.
Body
Attach two soft hackles by their tips at the tail base. Palmer them forward, sweeping fibers rearward.
Finish
Secure and trim the stems. Form a small thread head, whip finish, and cement.

Beyond the bench

Use a strip-strip-pause retrieve over shallow grass or along shorelines. The unweighted fly sinks slowly between strips.
