Tail and rear legs
Secure a craft-fur tail slightly longer than the shank. Add four rearward rubber legs and tie in wire.
Eyes and body
Attach bead chain above the hook-point position. Wind chenille forward, crossing around the eyes, and secure behind the hook eye.
Rib the chenille
Spiral copper wire forward in open turns, then secure and remove the excess.
Wing and flash
Tie a fuller craft-fur wing at the front, extending beyond the tail. Add pearl flash along both sides.
Front legs
Attach a short rubber leg on each side facing forward. Whip finish, leaving the hook eye clear.
On the water.
Use short strips and pauses. Permit versions often use heavier eyes and a size 2 hook.
