Work through the numbered steps in order. Use the written materials and proportions as your guide; select an image for a closer look.

  1. Polar Shrimp, step 1: Leave head space

    Leave head space

    Start thread behind the eye, leaving room for the wing fold; cover the shank rearward.

  2. Polar Shrimp, step 2: Set the tail

    Set the tail

    Secure red fibers extending about half a shank length beyond the rear tie-in point.

  3. Polar Shrimp, step 3: Wind chenille

    Wind chenille

    Expose and tie in the chenille core. Wind forward, leaving space for collar and head; secure.

  4. Polar Shrimp, step 4: Sweep the hackle

    Sweep the hackle

    Tie in orange saddle and make about four turns, brushing fibers rearward; secure and trim.

  5. Polar Shrimp, step 5: Fold the wing

    Fold the wing

    Tie calf hair pointing forward, then fold it back, centered above the body. Tips stop short of the tail.

  6. Polar Shrimp, step 6: Finish neatly

    Finish neatly

    Bind the wing fold, form a tapered black thread head, and whip finish with the eye clear.
