Foam Popper

A buoyant foam head pushes water while a soft tail moves between pops.

From hook to fly

At the vise.

4 steps

Follow this base recipe in order. The materials list specifies one hook size; adjust proportions together when tying another size.

Prepare the head
Glue foam layers together and let cure. Cut a compact block with a flat front; cut a shallow underside slot for the shank.
Tie the rear
Cover the hook with thread. Tie a short marabou tail and wind chenille over the rear half.
Finish the tying
Secure chenille, whip finish, and cement. Leave a textured thread base on the front shank.
Mount the head
Glue the head onto that base with the flat face forward. Leave the eye and hook gap clear. Cure fully before fishing.

Beyond the bench

Pop near shallow cover, then pause. For sunfish use a smaller head; bass can take a larger version.
