Carp Hybrid

A chenille worm tail and soft hackle combine in a compact carp searching fly.

From hook to fly

Follow this base recipe in order. The materials list specifies one hook size; adjust proportions together when tying another size.

Eyes
Tie bead chain on top of the shank behind the eye using firm crossing wraps, so the fly can ride point-up.
Worm tail
Tie chenille at the bend with a tail about one shank long. Bind and trim the butt end.
Body
Dub an even body from the tail to behind the eyes. Brush lightly to loosen a few fibers.
Collar
Tie a hen feather by its tip and wrap a short collar, sweeping fibers back. Secure, whip finish, and cement only the knot.

Beyond the bench

Place just ahead of a feeding carp and let it settle into view. Move it only enough to attract attention.
